Family Yacht Charter FAQs
Are yacht charters safe for kids in Miami?
Yes. All YATR charters include USCG-licensed captains trained in safety, life jackets for all ages, and first aid equipment. Captains select calm, sheltered routes and anchorages appropriate for families with children. Kids must be supervised by adults at all times, especially near the swim platform.
What age can children go on a yacht charter?
There is no minimum age. Infants and toddlers are welcome with proper supervision. For very young children (under 2), we recommend shorter charters (2-3 hours) and calm water routes like Key Biscayne or southern Biscayne Bay. Yachts with enclosed cabins are ideal for nap time.
What water activities are available for kids?
Family-friendly activities include swimming in shallow sandbar areas, paddleboarding (kids can ride with adults), snorkeling in calm waters, water slides on some larger yachts, and inflatable toys. Many yachts have fishing rods for catch-and-release fishing that kids love.
How much does a family yacht charter cost in Miami?
Family charters start from $1,500 for a 4-hour trip on a 40-50ft yacht for up to 12 guests. This is often comparable to the cost of a day at a waterpark for a family of 6, but with a private captain, your own schedule, and no lines. Mid-size yachts for extended families run $3,000-$6,000.
What should I bring for kids on a yacht?
Bring reef-safe sunscreen, hats, swim diapers (for babies), snacks and drinks, motion sickness medicine (just in case), a change of clothes, and towels. Life jackets are provided on board. A waterproof phone case is helpful for photos in the water.
What if my child gets seasick?
Seasickness is less common on yachts than smaller boats, especially in the calm waters of Biscayne Bay. For sensitive kids, we recommend starting with a shorter charter, staying on deck with fresh air, having light snacks (crackers, ginger ale), and avoiding heavy meals before boarding. Your captain can anchor in calm water if anyone feels unwell.
Can we bring a stroller and car seat on the yacht?
Car seats can be left on board but are not usable during the cruise (there are no seat belts on yachts). Strollers can be stored on the dock or on larger vessels. Most families find they do not need either once on board, as the yacht has seating throughout.
